STATEWIDE FIREWORKS BAN – EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

Washington Terrace Fire Department

Due to extreme wildfire conditions across Utah, Governor Spencer Cox has declared a State of Emergency, allowing the Utah State Forester to prohibit the discharge of personal fireworks within municipalities.

No personal fireworks may be discharged in Washington Terrace from July 2 through July 5.

This statewide action provides clear, consistent direction to help prevent additional human-caused wildfires and protect lives, homes, businesses, and natural resources. Depending on fire conditions, state officials may extend these restrictions through the Pioneer Day holiday.

Residents are encouraged to:

• Do not ignite or discharge personal fireworks.

• Attend professionally organized public fireworks displays where permitted.

• Avoid activities that could create sparks in dry vegetation.

Enforcement

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington Terrace Fire Department will actively enforce this ban. Discharging fireworks outside the dates and times allowed by Utah law, or within any posted fireworks restricted area, is illegal under Utah Code § 53-7-225. Violators may be prosecuted and fined up to $1,000 per violation. Anyone whose illegal or negligent use of fireworks causes a fire may also be held financially responsible for all fire suppression costs and property damage.

To report the illegal discharge of fireworks in a non-emergency situation, contact Weber Area Dispatch at 801-395-8221. Emergencies involving a fire, injury, or an immediate threat to life or property should always be reported by calling 911.

We also recognize the dedication of firefighters, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, and emergency management personnel who are working to protect communities throughout Utah during this period of extreme fire danger.
