Water Conservation Tips

As the Utah State snowpack website so succinctly notes, "In Utah, we are either in drought or preparing for the next one, so we always need to use our water wisely."  Please review the following information to determine how you can participate in water conservation.

Indoor Water Conservation:

Fix Leaks:

Regularly check for leaks in faucets, pipes, and toilets, and repair them promptly. A slow drip can waste a surprising amount of water.

Take Shorter Showers:

Reduce shower times to save water. You can set a timer to help you stay on track.

Turn Off the Water:

Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth or shaving and only run the dishwasher and washing machine with full loads.

Install Water-Efficient Fixtures:

Consider installing low-flow showerheads, faucet aerators, and dual-flush or low-flow toilets.

Maintain Appliances:

Regularly check and maintain your appliances, such as washing machines and dishwashers, to ensure they are operating efficiently and not leaking.

Recycle Water:

Consider using water from your washing machine to water plants or other outdoor areas

Outdoor Water Conservation:

Sweep Driveways and Patios:

Instead of using a hose to clean driveways and patios, use a broom or leaf blower.

Water Wisely:

Water your lawn and garden early in the morning or late in the evening to minimize evaporation.

Collect Rainwater:

Install a rain barrel to collect rainwater for later use in watering plants or cleaning.

Consider a Rain Garden:

Plant a rain garden to capture stormwater runoff from your roof, driveway, and other hard surfaces.

Reduce Lawn Area:

Consider replacing some of your lawn with drought-tolerant plants or groundcover to reduce water consumption.

Install Rain Sensors:

Install rain sensors on your irrigation system to prevent watering when it's raining.
