Culinary Water Consumer FAQs

How do I report a culinary water leak or sewer backup?

  • To report a water leak or sewer backup during business hours (8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday - Friday) please call 801-393-8681. After hours please call Weber County non-emergency dispatch 801-395-8221.

Why is my water usage so high?

  • Water usage should stay roughly the same from month-to-month, however, if you fill a hot tub or swimming pool your usage will be higher. If you have guests during the month or do more laundry than usual it will also cause your usage to rise. Running a water softener will use more water. The biggest culprit for higher usage is a leaking toilet. You may not hear the leak from a toilet so you may not know you have a leak.

What is the hardness of my water?

  • 11 grains per gallon.

Why is my water cloudy or discolored?

  • There may be some work on the water system in your area which can stir up some sediment. It is safe and causes no harm. Just run your tap for about 15 minutes and it should clear up. If not, please call 801-393-8681.

Leaking or Pressure Concerns?

  • Upon request, personnel from the public works department can come investigate sites with pressure or leaking concerns, however, there are a number of points that must be checked by the resident first.

Residents must check the following before requesting a public works investigation:

    • Are toilet tanks continually running? Consider using a dye test.

    • Are all inside facets turned off?

    • Are all outside faucets and hose bibs turned off?

    • Is the water pressure regulator clean?

    • Is there access to the location's water main shut off valve?

If all of the above answers are yes, please call the City at 801-393-8681, and a member of the public works team can come check the following:

    • System pressure at the nearest fire hydrant

    • Water pressure at an outside hose bib of the house

    • Water pressure at the meter

    • Personnel will only enter the home on a case by case basis
